The 20-hectare sand mining project has a five-year business plan, with a total of 540,000 cubic meters of extraction activity. Concerning sand mining business, the company will exploit sand at a depth of between 2 meters and 3 meters, starting from the bottom of the Tonle Sap Lake in the dry season not exceeding 7 meters.
Based on the real situation in the local area, the company sees positive and negative impacts on natural resources and socio-economic resources that may arise from project activities. As a result, the company allows the first environmental and social impact assessment of the sand mining project to seek measures to prevent, mitigate, or minimize the negative impact as low as possible.
The objective of studying the working conditions is to submit to the Ministry of Environment for reviewing and decision-making to reach an initial environmental and social impact assessment on the sand mining project. The following is the purpose of the study of working conditions:
- Identify the project by focusing on the size and location of the proposed project
- Determine the scope and limitations of the first environmental and social impact assessment, including activities from projects directly and indirectly
- Determine the methodology and sample number for the study of biological resources, biological resources and socio-economic resources located within and near the project are
- Identify the composition of stakeholders, departments, and institutions that are to be included in the project’s initial environmental and social impact assessment
- Prepare a report format to be submitted to the Ministry of Environment in the first environmental and social impact assessment report
- Consultation on the Study and the Framework of Study, with the participation and agreement of the Ministry of Environment and the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment Working Group
- Identify the environmental and social fund of the proposed project
To conduct a study of the nature of existing natural resources in the area, the study focuses on three areas: economic and social resources, biological resources, physical resources.
Physical resources include: topographic geology, classification, climate, climate, air quality, sound and vibration. In addition, there are also detailed hydrological studies such as: water system, river, river, river, river, speed and stream and water quality.
For biological resources, because in the project area, there is no forest cover, so the study is only selected on the type and presence through direct surveys and mature interviews in the village. The study focused on key areas such as fish, wildlife and wildlife.
For economic and social resources, such as housing, employment, income, education, land use, water use, energy consumption, management and storage of solid and liquid waste, public health, natural disasters and religious beliefs.
